Major, Supporting, and Minor Stars
Stars are the principal descriptive vocabulary of Zi Wei Dou Shu, but they are not physical astronomical causes. They belong to the symbolic system of the traditional chart. Major stars usually provide the main outline of a palace, supporting stars add abilities and interaction patterns, challenging stars highlight pressure and adjustment, and minor stars contribute finer details.
Major stars provide the framework
Major stars often describe how a theme is organized: stability or change, integration or initiative, rules or flexibility. An empty palace does not mean an absence of content; readers normally consult the opposing palace and connected structures. Memorizing a few adjectives for each major star can obscure palace placement, combinations, and real circumstances.
Supporting stars are not simple bonuses
Supporting stars are frequently described as helpful, but the form of support still depends on placement and combination. Some emphasize learning, expression, cooperation, or resources; others increase urgency or competition. Helpful and challenging stars should not be reduced to luck and disaster. Pressure may encourage training, while an overused strength may become a blind spot.
Combinations matter more than one star
The expression of one star changes with different companions in the same palace. A reader should also examine transformations, whether the palace is active in a decadal or annual cycle, and the context provided by other palaces. A useful interpretation explains why a combination may produce a tendency rather than presenting a list of labels.
Avoid labeling people
Do not use one star to declare that a person is destined to be selfish, unsuccessful, or wealthy. Education, resources, health, relationships, and choices affect personality and outcomes. A better reading asks a testable question, such as whether someone tends to take rapid control under pressure and when that strategy helps or needs adjustment.
